Dalecarlian runic inscriptions

This excerpt from Jan Owe's Svensk runristningsförteckning includes those inscriptions in Dalecarlian runes that have an Rv number in his list. These numbers are derived from a register in Runverket, Riksantikvarieämbetet (the Department of Runes at the Swedish National Heritage Board), where inscriptions have received a serial number.

The following entries are marked in italics in the list because they are deemed not to be genuine, found not to contain runes, are not carved on objects, or similar: Rv8, Rv17, Rv28, Rv42, Rv53, Rv54, Rv86, Rv87, Rv92, Rv96, Rv97 , Rv112, Rv122, Rv141, Rv142, Rv157, Rv159, Rv187, Rv195, Rv239, Rv265, Rv285, Rv297, Rv304 and Rv318.

In total more than 350 inscriptions with Dalecarlian runes are known from Dalecarlia; the list below is thus not exhaustive, see Svensk runristningsförteckning, but only those with an Rv number are included here. For some of the inscriptions below, it is doubtful if they are genuine. The youngest that is certainly regarded as genuine is an inscription from the year 1900 in a wind shelter from Gryvleån in Älvdalens parish, D Rv317.

Each entry in the list starts with a province designation, usually D for Dalecarlia. The list also includes four Dalecarlian rune inscriptions found in Härjedalen and one found in Gästrikland, they are designated below with Hr Rv + serial number and Gs Rv + serial number respectively. If the inscription has been lost, this is indicated with a † after the serial number. For each inscription the type of the object, or what the inscription is carved on is then specified and often a year in parentheses. The year or years mentioned are present in connection with the inscription, and can therefore be assumed to date it. As a rule a parish is given, otherwise only 'Unknown origin', the place and if known the inscription's current location, e.g. in a museum. EHF + number, refers to the inventory in Elfdalen's local district association collections in Rots skans [cultural museum].

Some inscriptions also have literary references; see also Svensk runbibliografi and the literature list in the document below.
